The Senate has given some Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) indicted by the Auditor General of the Federation (AuGF) query and the report of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts a two-month grace to recover no less than N300 billion.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, made this known shortly after considering the Annual Report of the Auditor General of the Federation on the accounts of the Federation for the year ended 31st December 2021, by the Senate on Wednesday, 14th July 2021.
The decision of the Senate is contrary to the suggestion of Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central, APC), that the accounting officer of the affected MDAs should be referred by the Senate to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) immediately to recover the no less than N300 billion the MDAs.
However, some infractions captured by the Senate Committee’s report would be referred to the anti-graft commission by the Senate if the affected MDAs fail to present evidence of payment of the recovered amount into the public treasury within 30 days.
