Shift exam date from Sallah day, MURIC appeals to NECO

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has appealed to the National Examinations Council (NECO) to shift its examination date of Saturday 9th July, 2022 due to its clash with the first day of Id al-Adha (Salah).

The appeal was contained in a statement issued by MURIC Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Sunday.

“The National Examinations Council (NECO) has fixed one of its examinations, Data Processing (Practical) for Saturday 9th July, from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.

“Coincidentally, that date clashes with the first day of Id al-Adha (Salah).

“We are fully aware that the clash was not deliberate as NECO had actually demonstrated goodwill by setting aside a whole week for Salah celebrations (Monday, 11th July to Friday 15th July) and this reflected in its timetable.

“This means that NECO had, ab initio, recognised the Salah holiday and the examination body did not deliberately fix an examination on that day.

“We therefore appeal to the NECO authorities to kindly shift the examination of that day alone (Saturday 9th July, 2022) to another date in order to enable its teeming Muslim candidates sit for their examinations.

“The paper which was originally fixed for Salah day may be taken on Thursday 14th July, 2022 which is one of the days set aside by NECO for the Salah holiday.”
