Sirika intervenes in Air Peace layoff

Several pilots to get their job back

After the intervention of the aviation minister, Hadi Sirika, the management of Air Peace has agreed in an official statement to recall some of their pilots back to work.

More than fifty staff and pilots were laid off due to the effects of COVID – 19 on travel and aviation putting the airline at loggerheads with the National Association of Airline Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE).

During a meeting with the airline’s management and NAAPE called by Sirika, a verbal agreement was reached and the airline agreed to the minister’s appeal for the recall of the maximum number of pilots that the airline can accommodate without going under.

Expressing sadness at the ingratitude of the pilots, Mr Allen Onyema said that everything was done to make them comfortable at their jobs. The union’s chairman, Galadima Abednego, said that the Union is a partner and not an adversary. He also said it pains them to see a large number of their members thrown into the workforce again.

Sirika called for the understanding of everyone especially the unions and commended Onyema for his enormous contributions in developing the industry.
