
Governors and stakeholders of the oil producing South South region of Nigeria have demanded true federalism, resource control, fair revenue sharing and State Police as the best ingredients to achieving a better Nigeria.
The demands were presented to the Federal government delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
At the meeting the Federal government was presented with a 7-point demand on behalf of the region by the Chairman of South South Governor’s Forum, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, of Delta state.
Among the demands are, “Immediate relocation of headquarters of oil multinational to their operational bases in the South South region and Immediate relocation of government -owned oil subsidiaries from Lagos and Abuja to the South South region”.
” Immediate completion of East-West road under construction and Immediate privatisation of the two refineries in Port Harcourt and the one in Warri for effectiveness”.
Other demands are the release of all funds due NDDC and that henceforth, all NDDC projects must be done in consultation with State Governors in the region.
The reactivation of sea ports in Calabar, Port Harcourt and Warri and the Lagos to Calabar railway line was also on the demand list of the region.
The meeting took place one week after the governors and stakeholders demanded an apology from the Presidency after a similar meeting was botched at the same venue.
