Sport maintains its status as veritable nation building tool – Abayomi

The man calling the shots at the Authentic Nigeria Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club, ANFASSC Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi says Nigerian sports cannot afford to have a crack, adding that it’s about the only sector that unifies millions of Nigerians.

Prince Ogunjimi stated these at a public hearing organized by the Senate committe on sports under the Leadership of Senator Obinna Ogba.

Two bills were brought to the fore, the National Sports Commission establishment bill, 2020, and the Federal sports University Nkalagu, Ebonyi state (establishment) bill 2021.

At an event which had several dignitaries including Hon. Sports Minister Sunday Dare in attendance, Prince Ogunjimi who acknowledged that it was his first time appearing as a guest at the House of Senate noted that he is in Support of whatever will continue to foster unity in Nigeria.

He said, “It’s evident that one of the veritable tools of nation-building here in Nigeria is sports, it’s about the only sector that brings millions of people together and we unanimously sing one song and cheer our country”.

“So whatever it will take for the sports sector to continue to stand tall and strong should always be in the news, we can’t afford to have a crack in sports”.

Sunday Dare seeks independent National Sports Commission

On the two proposed bills, particularly the National sports Commission establishment bill, Prince Ogunjimi appreciated Senator Obinna Ogba, he said once it becomes a law, it will further bring development to the sports sector in different spheres.

He also appreciated the Sports minister for his giant strides since becoming the country’s sports custodian, he extolled Mr. Dare for not limiting his administration to just football.
