Stop blaming Nollywood for vices in Nigeria — Charles Inojie

Actor, Charles Inojie, has cautioned Nigerians about blaming the movie sector of the country, Nollywood for the incessant ritual killings and Internet fraud happening in society.

<span;><span;>In a recent interview, the ace actor charged parents with the responsibility of reorienting their children and wards on the importance of dignity in labour.

<span;>He said, “Can we in good faith say that all Nollywood films draw their subject matters from ritual themes? The fact that those stories exist might as well be an indication of the fact that ritual killings for political power, spiritual fortification, money making and organ harvesting exist in our society. So, instead of condemning those movies, we should applaud them for their expository qualities.

<span;>“Have we not heard of pastors who bury human bodies underneath their pulpits for spiritual powers, or highly influential men in society who hide under the cover of night to sleep with mad women for ritual purposes? How come when Nollywood addresses the subject in movies, it automatically receives criticism from the public?

<span;>“Are we ashamed to see our nakedness exposed before our very eyes? We have seen where parents give their under-aged and unemployed wards a rousing reception to celebrate their return home with cars that no one bothers to ask how they got. Nollywood didn’t create any of that. We should return to instilling family values. We should begin to reorient the younger generation to understand the true meaning of dignity in labour and teach our kids to know that quick fixes most often end in ultimate catastrophe. Nollywood is as much a victim of a miserably corroded society as the rest of us. Nollywood is not our problem.”
