Two and a half years into his tenure, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Dr Tony Jaja, has been sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The dismissal which is expected to take place with immediate effect was first contained in a letter dated September 28, 2020.
Spokesperson for the Attorney-General of the Federation, Dr Umar Gwandu, confirmed this to journalists on Monday.
In a document dated October 15, 2020, and signed by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr Dayo Apata (SAN), the notice informed Jaja of his sack by approval of the president.
However, no reasons were provided for his dismissal.
“l have been directed to notify you of your removal as the Chairman, Governing Board of the Nigerian Copyright Commission by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari. GCFR, as conveyed vids letter Ref: 59312/V/230 of September 28, 2020.
“Your removal is with immediate effect and you are, therefore expected to hand over all the properties of the commission in your possession to the Director-General.
“While wishing you success in your future endeavours, please accept the assurances of the warm regards and best wishes of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.”
The notice also ordered the sacked Chairman to immediately hand over the property of the commission in his custody to the Director-General, John Asein.
