The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke said no university lecturer has been paid since February.
The President said this during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday.
Osodeke said the government thought that if their salaries are withheld for two months, it will force the lecturers to suspend the strike action.
“Our salaries have been held for six months. The Federal Government thought that if they hold our salaries for two or three months, we will come begging or suspend the strike,” he said.
He added that the goverment cannot use the force of hunger to pull their members back to work.
“We as a union of intellectuals, we have grown beyond that. You can’t use the force of hunger to pull our members back which is exactly what the government is doing,” Osodeke stated.
