Suspect Killed As Robbers Engaged Police In Gun Battle In Ogun

The Ogun state police command  on Monday shot dead an armed robbery suspect, while others escaped with gun shot injuries.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police in a statement said this followed a distress call received by the police at Ikenne Divisional headquarters at about 5 00 am. that a group of armed robbers had blocked road along Olabiro Street in the area,  dispossessing people of their valuables at gun point.

“Upon the distress call, the DPO Ikenne Division CSP Noukauba Onuma,  quickly mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene, on sighting the policemen, the hoodlums engaged them in gun battle which lasted for about thirty minutes at the end of which one of the hoodlums was shot dead while others escaped with various degree of gun shot injuries

He listed items recovered from the dead robbery suspect to include ; one cut to size locally made gun, one live cartridge and one expended cartridge.

Meanwhile, he said the Commissioner of Police,  Edward Awolowo Ajogun had  praised the gallantry displayed by his men and  said that this should be a warning signal criminals, who are deluding themselves that police are not working again to have a rethink.

Ajogun added that the command will go to any length in protecting the good people of the state, directing  that the fleeing members of the gang be hunted and brought to justice within the shortest possible time.
