APC congresses: I don’t have any special interest – Sen. Akwashiki

Sen. Godiya Akwashiki (APC-Nasarawa North) says that he did not have any special interest in the upcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) ward and local government congresses in the state.

Akwashiki, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Employment, Labour and Productivity, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing APC executive members and critical stakeholders in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the party and other stakeholders of the party at all levels have suggested the need to have consensus candidates in the congresses.

The senator, therefore, called on stakeholders and members of the party to work towards having consensus candidates during the congresses in the interest of the party in the state and Nigeria at large.

He said that having consensus candidates would not only promote peace in the party but would strengthen the party in the country.

“I don’t have any special interest in the forthcoming ward and local government congresses in the state.
“Let’s discuss and suggest ways forward in order to have consensus candidates in the interest of the party and for the overall development of the party and the state at large

“As the party and other stakeholders have discussed at various levels on the need to allow the present executive members of the party to continue (that is continuity).

“Except where an official or officials had left our party, gained employment or died or as the case may be, then there is need for replacement in the interest of peace, stability and for the overall development of our party,” he said.

Akwashiki also called on the APC stakeholders and members to continue to unite and work tirelessly for the victory of the party during the forthcoming local government election and future election in the state.
The lawmaker assured of quality representation at the National Assembly in order to better the standard of living of his constituents and other Nigerians.

Also speaking, Alhaji Mohammed Muluku, member representing Nassarawa Eggon East Constituency at the state legislature; Mrs. Mary Enwongulu, former minority leader at the state legislature; and Alhaji Mohammed Ubangari, Chairman, critical stakeholders in the area, among others, endorsed consensus arrangement.

They said that having consensus candidates in the congress would not only bring peace and stability to APC but would take the party to a greater height.

Earlier, Mr. Moses Malle, the Chairman of, Caretaker Committee of APC in the area, said that the meeting was aimed at discussing strategies on how to ensure peaceful ward and local government congresses in the area.

He also appreciated the stakeholders and other members of the party for their peaceful conduct and maturity during the party chairmanship and ward primaries election in the state.

The chairman assured of their loyalty to the party and the state government for development to thrive.
After deliberations, Mrs. Mary Enwongulu, the former minority leader, moved a motion for the adoption of consensus candidates in the congresses.

Mr. Tijani Marafa, a former speaker, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Legislative Council, seconded the motion.

The stakeholders unanimously adopted to have consensus candidates in the ward and local government congresses in the area.

 

Mr. Malle Moses, the Chairman of, Caretaker Committee in the area, presented 14 councillorship candidates to the stakeholders and members of the party for adoption.

Messrs Salihu Eggah was presented for Alogani Ward; Kasimu Umar – Mada Station; Usman Sambu – Nassarawa Eggon/Alizaga; Kigbu Amos – Lizzin Ezzen; Yara Abenson – Ende; Abimiku Waki – Ubbe/Ogba/Gaji; and Bako Thomas – Wakama.

Others are Abashi Esson for Ikka/Wangibi ward; Kasimu Allu – Kagbu; Malla Envulu – Lambaga/Arikpa; Suleiman Tafida – Umme; Bala Shuaibu – Agunji; Yohanna Alizi – Igga/Burumburum, and Sunday Enga – Alushi/Ginda.
