President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would secure a decisive victory in the 2027 presidential election.
He declared that the growing influence of the City Boy Movement had already placed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of its political opponents.
Akpabio spoke while receiving a delegation of the City Boy Movement on a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly.
He said the pro-Tinubu support group had become a formidable grassroots mobilisation platform capable of delivering what he described as a “maximum victory” for the President’s second-term bid.
He likened the movement to “a wind blowing across the nation,” saying its impact was already being felt by political parties nationwide.
According to him, the group’s nationwide mobilisation would ensure that President Tinubu had polling agents in every voting unit during the 2027 election, preventing a recurrence of what he claimed were uncounted votes in the 2023 presidential poll.
“Never again shall we have a situation in any polling unit in Nigeria where Mr President will not have an agent because we have the City Boy Movement,” he said.
Akpabio maintained that if the movement had existed during the last general election, many votes cast for Tinubu that allegedly went uncounted would have been protected.
The Senate President said members of the organisation had emerged at the right time and were well positioned to mobilise Nigerians for Tinubu’s re-election.
He also claimed that while the City Boy Movement was actively mobilising supporters, educating voters and expanding its structures across the country, opposition political parties were not matching its level of engagement.
Akpabio predicted that opponents of the President would allege electoral manipulation after the declaration of Tinubu’s expected victory but urged members of the movement to remain focused and ignore such criticisms.
He encouraged the youths to view their participation in the movement as an opportunity to contribute to national development while acquiring leadership and political mobilisation skills for the future.
The Senate President assured the delegation of the support of the National Assembly, commending young Nigerians who had embraced constructive political engagement instead of cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.
He urged members to remain disciplined and avoid actions that could derail their future, stressing that they had a unique opportunity to contribute to Nigeria’s political development.
Earlier, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, said the visit was intended to strengthen collaboration with the National Assembly.
He appealed for Akpabio’s continued support as the movement expands its programmes nationwide to deepen civic engagement among young Nigerians and contribute to national development.
