In a significant boost for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, traders from 76 markets across the state have formally endorsed the APC governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, ahead of the November 8, 2025, election.
At a ceremony in Awka, the traders—under the umbrella of the All Anambra Traders Association—signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ukachukwu, pledging their full support and vowing to mobilise massively for his victory.
Leader of the traders, Nze Theo Obiora, said the endorsement followed extensive consultations and reflected traders’ confidence in Ukachukwu’s capacity to rescue the state from insecurity, multiple taxation, and poor infrastructure.
“We are tired of insecurity and the endless harassment by touts. Ukachukwu understands our pains and has given his word in writing before God and the people,” Obiora said.
In his remarks, Ukachukwu assured the traders that his administration would prioritise security, stable electricity supply, industrial growth, and youth empowerment if elected.
“I will begin by restoring security and ensuring a 24-hour power supply,” the APC candidate said. “The Omasi gas deposit in Ayamelum will be harnessed fully for the benefit of Ndi Anambra.”
He also promised scholarships, access to credit for small traders, and improved road networks to stimulate commerce across the state.
The signed MoU, described by observers as a “social contract” between Ukachukwu and the traders, addressed key grievances, including illegal toll collection (Aka-odo), multiple taxation, poor road conditions, and harassment by market thugs.
Also present at the event were representatives of traders from Imo State, led by former Ogbaru Council Chairman, Lady Callister Nwachukwu, who pledged solidarity with Ukachukwu’s campaign.
“We want a government that will work for the people, not against them,” she said. “We are giving him 100 per cent support because we believe in his vision.”
The endorsement marks one of the most substantial grassroots mobilisation efforts yet for the APC in Anambra, as the battle for the state’s top seat intensifies.
