A Non- Governmental Organization, Peoples Security Monitor, PSM, has canvassed for a better and sustained security network for the safety of Nigerians irrespective of their places of abode.
The group during its 2021 Annual Conference and Recognition Award held at the Banquet Hall of Nigeria National Merit Award House in Maitama, Abuja, noted that security is the business of all citizens.
The theme of the event: “Countering insecurity in the country: The need for an all inclusive approach” stressed the need for all security agents to be proactive and committed to nipping all security threats through conscious supply of information to the agents to enable them act when the need arise.
One of the award recipients, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, FCT Council, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche, in his remarks stated that security is the business of every Nigerian, adding that every citizen must continue to be on the alert as daily the reports of innocent killings doesn’t speak well of the nation.
According to him; “let me thank the organizers of this award for a job well done. I must appreciate the desire to have found me worthy of this award. Security is key to national development. Without it, it is like a vehicle destined to crash. What can anybody do today without security? Our lives revolve around safety. These threats and attacks should not be allowed.
” It is unfortunate that lives are no longer safe in Nigeria. Why should government continue to spend so much without corresponding values for resources? Monies voted for military hardware to fight insecurity are not reflecting on the security architecture in the country.
“There are still complaints of lives being cut down in their prime. We read in the newspapers of this sad attacks, kidnapping and banditry. I wish the government can wake up and act most especially in the Northern part of the country,” he said.
Another recipient, ACP Patrick Ejededawe, who was represented by ACP Victor Beppe, said he was particularly delighted with the award.
“Apart from being a security officer, he has been so dedicated that he has a training program for young men within his own community that he has been trying to reach out to see that he developed then into being security conscious.

“Little wonder, when he called me that the People’s Security Monitor, an organization i so much commend invited him for an award, I was so excited. So, I think the group is a unique one. They are doing so much to add their inputs in addressing security challenges we have in the country today.
“So, I commend the organization. And, I will pass back the message and I think he will appreciate that he has identified with this group”, he said.
