Okupe sentenced to 2 years in prison for money laundering

Justice Ijeaoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Monday, sentenced the former Senior Special Assistant, SSA, on Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, to two years in prison.

 

The court had found the defendant guilty of counts 34 to 59 of the charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against him.

The court, in it’s judgement, convicted Okupe for breaching the money laundering Act and sentenced him to two years on each of the counts, it however held that the sentence would run concurrently.

 

The court further held that the Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, of the Labour Party, LP,two-year conviction was with a fine of of N500, 000 for each count.

 

 

The court stated that it would not make an order for the defendant to be kept in prison custody since his sentence was with the option of fine.
