No fewer than 1,000 persons have benefitted from the free medical treatment organised by the Nigerian Army at the Gital community in Tafawa-Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The medical outreach was part of activities lined up to commemorate the 2021 Nigeria Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
Maj. Wilson Ejiga, Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade Medical Centre, stated this while inspecting the exercise on Monday in Tafawa-Balewa, Bauchi.
Ejigba said the exercise was designed to treat patients suffering from various ailments such as eye diseases; malaria, Typhoid fever, hepatitis, and hypertension among others.
He said that eye tests, medical examinations, dental care, issuance of eyeglasses, free drugs, and laboratory tests were provided free during the medical outreach.
Other highlights of the exercise included health talks, HIV/AIDS counseling/testing, and the distribution of treated nets to expectant mothers.
“HIV screening, COVID-19 vaccination, physiotherapy, laboratory tests, and health education are carried out, to enlighten the participants on what to do to maintain a healthy living.
“We are here with a full team to render free medical services to members of the community,” he said.
In a remark, Brig.-Gen.Tariweriye Gagariga, the Commanding Officer, 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi, said the medical outreach was part of the social responsibility of the Nigerian Army.
Gagariga said the exercise was also to strengthen the existing civil-military relations, aimed at the improvement of public health services.
