Police arraign man, 30, two others over alleged assault

The police on Thursday, arraigned a 30-year-old man, Olawale Olatunde, before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault.

The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a charge of assault.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant and two others at large committed the offence on Feb.2 at about 4:00 pm at Omisanjana Area in Ado-Ekiti.

Okunade alleged that the defendant and two others at large assaulted one Cpl. Olarewaju Samuel, while performing his lawful duty.

He said the offence contravened Section 356 (1) (2) (5) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty. Counsel to the defendant, Mr Olayemi Olatunde, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ogunsina, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until March 11 for hearing.
