Temitope Osoba: Family fixes Sept 10 burial date after earlier postponement
Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Temitope Osoba, will be laid to rest in her hometown of Iperu Remo, Ogun State, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, after her earlier burial date was postponed.
The new burial arrangements were announced by the actress’ family in an obituary shared on her official Instagram page on Monday.
According to the programme, Osoba’s remains will leave the Ogun State University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, at 9am on Thursday for the burial service scheduled to hold between 10am and 11am at Akesan Club, opposite Iperu Morning Market, Iperu Remo.
The family stated, “Body leaves OSUTH Sagamu by 9am. Burial service Thursday 10th of September, 10:00am–11:00am, Akesan Club opposite Iperu Morning Market, Iperu Remo.”
The actress will thereafter be interred at the Iperu Remo Cemetery Ground immediately after the burial service, with mourners expected to appear in white attire.
Osoba, popularly known as Tope Osoba, died in early August at the age of 40, bringing to an end a career that spanned almost two decades in the Yoruba film industry.
She was known for her roles in Yoruba-language productions, including Oogun Mi, and also worked as a producer.
Her death came about a year after she announced her recovery from breast cancer and her return to acting.
Osoba had publicly spoken about her battle with breast cancer and sought public support during her treatment and surgery. In August 2025, she announced that she had recovered and was returning to the film industry, describing the period as one of healing, rebranding and empowerment.
However, questions surrounding the circumstances of her death have persisted, following conflicting accounts from her fiancé and members of her family.
Her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, had alleged that the actress died after she was taken to a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos, while members of her family reportedly provided a different account of the events preceding her death.
The conflicting narratives prompted calls for an investigation into the circumstances of her demise, with actor Yomi Fabiyi among those who called for an autopsy to establish the cause and circumstances of her death.
The family subsequently cautioned against the circulation of unverified information concerning Osoba’s death, urging members of the public and the media to rely on statements issued through its official channels.
The actress’ burial had initially been scheduled for August 13 in Iperu Remo but was postponed indefinitely by her family.
With the latest announcement, the family has now fixed September 10 for her final rites, bringing renewed focus to the farewell for the actress whose career and personal battle with cancer had made her story widely known among fans of Yoruba cinema.
