
Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has urged Corps members posted to the state to actively use the period to gain entrepreneurship skills to be productive in the future.
Tambuwal made the call during the swearing-in of 2021 Batch B, Stream 1 Corps members at Wamakko Permanent Orientation Camp in Sokoto on Monday.
He also assured the Corps members of maximum safety and improved welfare during their service year in the state.
The governor, represented by the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Muhammad Nakamba, enjoined the Corps members to be law-abiding and always be good ambassadors of their families and the state they came from.
He noted that the NYSC scheme was an enduring exercise, stressing that its vital role in sustaining national integration, social development, and promoting a just and egalitarian society could not be over-emphasized.
“You should see your participation in the preparatory stage of the one-year national service as fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of our great nation.
“In recognition of employment challenges, NYSC in its wisdom introduced the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Department (SAED) to empower corps members.
“Seize this rare opportunity to facilitate the development of Nigeria and Nigerians into a great and dynamic economy,” Tambuwal said.
He implored them to be aware that the period of the orientation would place much demand on their strength, discipline, tolerance, and level of sacrifice.
He urged them to fully participate in the repackaged skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development geared toward making each of them self-reliant.

The governor urged them to take the COVID-19 approved guidelines and sensitize their host communities seriously to curb the negative impact of COVID-19 and mitigate its spread.
The State Coordinator, Nakamba stated that NYSC would reward dedicated corps members at the end of their service year, stressing that if any of them wanted to be beneficiaries, they should start from the camp.
He said that sanctions also awaited those who would flout the regulations.
The Chief Judge of Sokoto State, Justice Sa’aidu Sifawa, represented by Chief Magistrate, Maryam Muhammad, administered the oath to the 1,467 corps members, comprising 707 males and 760 females.
