A teenager, Mustapha Abdullahi, on Friday appeared at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a cable worth N75,000 from a transformer.
Abdullahi, 19, who resides in the Igando area in Lagos, is facing trial on a count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 24, 2021, at 6:05 a.m. at Oje Olorunfemi Street, Egan, Igando, Lagos.
Aigbokhan said that the defendant stole a Stay Cable valued at N75,000, from a community transformer which made the community not access electricity.
According to him, the cable belonged to the Ikeja Electricity company.
He said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 provides three years imprisonment for the offence of stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 21 for mention.
