Tension as gunmen burn four soldiers, others in Imo

Tension has mounted in Imo state as gunmen allegedly ambushed and killed eight security operatives including four soldiers in Ehime Mbano’s local government area of Imo state.

Also killed in the attack include policemen and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).

The ugly incident was said to have happened in the Umualumaku community of the council in the early hours of Tuesday.

A viral video of the incident on social media showed the four Soldiers roasted alive after their hands were tied beside their burning Hilux patrol vans.

Some voices of passersby and commercial motorcycle riders were heard shouting as they beheld the shocking scene of the attack.

Investigations revealed that residents of the area have fled their homes over possible reprisal attacks by soldiers.

The perpetrators of the dastardly act were said to have fled after the ambush.

It was not certain at the time of this report if the soldiers were at a checkpoint when the assailants attacked them.

It was learnt, however, that the deceased soldiers and other victims were part of a team of joint security task force team in two separate security trucks deployed to the area

The spokesperson for the State police command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the development.
