Tension as heavily armed men kill three in Anambra

Tension again mounted in parts of Awka, the Anambra State capital on Tuesday as heavily armed men shot three persons dead.

Investigation but ThisNigeria revealed that two of the victims were gunned down opposite Ifite Market while the third person was killed behind Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka town.

An eye witness said both incidents happened between 4.15 and 4.30 pm respectively.

The development had forced them to scamper for their safety as gunshots rained endlessly as traders and others were returning to their houses.

The latest attack is believed to be a result of renewed upsurge on bloody rival secret cult clashes in parts of the state capital.

However, the eye witness disclosed that ”These boys have started again. It is because the policemen are nowhere to be seen as a result of the “unknown gunmen”

A section of Awka town had four months ago in the wake of the unbearable killings and rival clashed among members of secret cult groups invited the dreaded ‘Bakassi Boys ‘, whose deadly activities helped to tame the worrisome tide.

Further findings showed that the Tuesday incident took place because some prominent persons in the area resisted the engagement of the security outfit.

Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, when contacted said he had not been briefed on the issue but assured that soon as the command received the signal it would be made public.

However a source close to the state command headquarters said the latest attack was not that of unknown gunmen, but cult clashes involving rival groups.
