As part of effort to tackle the rising spate of insecurity across the federation, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya has ordered commanders to ensure that troops under their command continue to train rigorously in anticipation of likely future operational tasks.
He also charged them to be of high moral character and act in accordance with the law as well as international best practices.
The COAS equally directed all commanders to emplace measures that will ensure thorough compliance with extant Nigerian Army policies on administration, operations, training and the use of social media amongst others.
Lt. Gen. Yahaya said this, while declaring closed the Chief of Army Staff Second Quarter Conference 2022 in Abuja.

He observed that the spike in security threats across the federation demands indepth and exceptional readiness by troops to wrestle the security challenges.
According to him, “It is pertinent to highlight that the spate of criminal activities across the country demands a high state of readiness amongst our troops both in the barracks and theatres of operation. Particular attention must be paid to enhancing basic combat skills of our troops to enable them operate with ease whenever called upon. Additionally, adequate attention must be given to sound welfare and administration of troops which will enable them perform their duties with greater diligence. I implore commanders at all levels to organize regular durbars, meetings and conference which would provide veritable platforms for addressing administrative issues that could hamper the efficiency of their respective formations and units.
“It is worthy to mention that a key session of this conference focused on the logistics appraisal of the Nigerian Army under my leadership. The logistics presentations have revealed appreciable improvements in our overall logistics and maintenance endeavours. I am particularly happy with the progress made in the area of evaluation and verification of accommodation across all Nigerian Army barracks and cantonments. The recent establishment of the Directorate of Housing under the Department of Army Logistics as well as the development of a comprehensive housing and energy policy for the Nigerian Army are laudable steps which are expected to ensure efficient service delivery”.

He noted that the policies when finalized would provide a comprehensive framework for the allocation of accommodation as well as the prudent utilization of energy in all Nigerian Army barracks and cantonments.
While expressing optimism that the objectives of the Second Quarter Conference have been largely achieved judging by the well-articulated inputs, ideas, innovations and suggestions that have been submitted over the past few days, the COAS tasked personnel to abide by the extant provisions of the traditions, customs and ethics of the Nigerian Army.
