Ex-Ghanaian international, Asamoah Gyan has tipped Super Eagles of Nigeria as the team to beat at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021), in Cameroon.
Gyan, who spoke as a guest analyst during the Cameroon versus Ethiopia match on Thursday, noted that so far in the competition, the Super Eagles are the only team that have displayed a high quality of football and look ready to face every opposition in the championship.
The former Sunderland F.C of England and Udinese of Italy forward believes that if the three-time African champions continue with the form that saw them beat the Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0 on Tuesday, then it will be very difficult for any of the teams to stop them from winning the title a fourth time in Cameroon.
“Looking back at the matches played so far I will say the game between Nigeria and Egypt has been the best; highly technical game and the Super Eagles were the better side. They showed more hunger for victory in the game by dominating the Egyptians and make look easy to handle.
“From their performance in the game, you can see that they are better prepared and ready to challenge for the title. And if they continue with the way they are playing I don’t see any of the teams stopping them. Honestly, these Super Eagles are a solid side and can beat any team in this competition. They look so good to win the title,” said the former Rennes F.C of France player who is well remembered for missing a late penalty kick against Uruguay that would have given the Black Stars of Ghana victory and a semi-final ticket at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The Super Eagles next game in the ongoing AFCON comes up tomorrow against Sudan and a victory in this game will guarantee them a place in the round of 16 knockouts.
