As part of the Federal Government’s ongoing nationwide drive to enhance infrastructure development and improve inter-city connectivity, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday commissioned the 16-kilometre road linking Idu Industrial Layout to Zuba Expressway in Abuja.

The President, who was represented at the event by Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, described the project as a significant step toward realising his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He noted that the completion of the road not only symbolises economic expansion but also affirms his commitment to inclusive development across Nigeria.

“This project is a major milestone in our collective journey towards improving the lives of the people,” Tinubu stated. “It is part of a broader vision to connect communities, enhance mobility, and stimulate economic activities across the FCT and beyond. We are determined to replicate such achievements in every part of Nigeria, ensuring no zone or community is left behind.”

The newly commissioned road, a right-hand service carriageway of the Inner Northern Expressway (INEX), links Route 3 to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX), also known as the Murtala Mohammed Expressway.

It serves as a key arterial route connecting the Idu Industrial District with Zuba and the northern corridor of Abuja, thereby opening up critical economic zones within the FCT.

In his speech, Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his vigorous pursuit of infrastructural renewal in the nation’s capital.

The President said Wike’s leadership had ushered in a new era of performance and accountability in public service.

“I commend the FCT Administration, led by the Minister, for your vision, commitment, and timely execution of this vital project. You have not only constructed a road, but you have also contributed to the future of our capital city.

“This project is a reflection of our development philosophy—building infrastructure that serves people, unlocks economic potential, and promotes sustainable growth,” the President said.

Speaking at the commissioning, Minister of the FCT, Wike, reiterated the centrality of road infrastructure in attracting investments and boosting economic development.

He explained that roads remain the backbone of any thriving economy and insisted that the government must lead the way in providing essential infrastructure.

“No investor will come to an environment without access roads. That is not their duty,” Wike stated. “The responsibility of opening up areas for investment lies with the government. This road opens up the industrial layout of Abuja, a crucial component of our long-term economic vision.”

Wike disclosed that the project, initially awarded in 2014 at a contract sum of ₦7 billion, had suffered delays and cost escalations, eventually ballooning to ₦31 billion due to inflation and other economic factors.

“Despite the challenges, we have completed it under the renewed hope agenda of Mr. President. It is the policy of this administration not to abandon inherited projects but to complete them for the benefit of the people,” he said.
He added that the road is expected to create at least 40,000 direct and indirect jobs, given its strategic position in Abuja’s industrial zone.

The Minister also made political remarks, referencing the 2026 Area Council elections in the FCT. He noted that the numerous projects delivered by the current administration across the six area councils would serve as evidence of good governance and performance.

“Let those contesting against us not waste their money. The people will vote based on what they see—these roads, the terminals, and the schools. That’s our campaign,” he declared.

Tuesday’s commissioning marked Day 10 of the project unveiling spree. Seven more projects are slated for commissioning in the coming days, with President Tinubu expected to be represented by top government officials, including the Vice President, the Senate President, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
