Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan on Tuesday came from behind to beat Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin 2-1 in the Nigeria National League playoff going on in Enugu.
In the first game of the day, Gombe United and El Kanemi Warriors shared the spoils (1-1) in a hotly contested Northern derby fixture.
The Oluyole Warriors found themselves behind as early as the 14th minute when Daniel Johnson cooly converted a penalty awarded to them by the central referee after Shooting Stars goalkeeper, Dare Dede was adjudged to have apprehended Bendel Insurance player in the 18-yard box.
Taofeek Malomo responded for 3SC with a beautiful strike in the 25th minute before Raheem Nafiu scored the second for the stars following a great build-up play from Gafar Olafimihan.
Shooting currently leads Group B with 3 points following the win while Gombe United and El Kanemi are joint top leaders of Group A following their 1-1 draw.
As of the time of filing this report, the second group A match between Niger Tornadoes and DMD is still goalless while Remo Stars is billed to take on Ekiti United later in the day.
