Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, was a hive of activity on Saturday, August 23, 2025, as eminent Nigerians from politics, the media, business, the military, and traditional institutions converged for the Nikkah ceremony of Faizah Omoteniola Kolapo, daughter of the Publisher of The Point Newspaper and Iya Sunnah of Egbaland, Dr. Yemi Kolapo, and AbdulHakeem Jimoh, son of retired Brigadier General Olanrewaju Jimoh.

The event, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Marquee, attracted a high-profile gathering of dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his wife, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who adjusted his travel plans to attend. The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof) Saka Matemilola, alongside a retinue of Southwest traditional rulers, also joined the high-profile gathering.

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, who lost his father two days before the ceremony, was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, who led a strong government delegation.

Also in attendance were Amb. Sarafa Isola, Chief Dele Momodu, Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, and several serving and former lawmakers.

The media community turned out in large numbers, with past and present editors, managing directors of major newspapers, and senior government communication aides in attendance.

Among them were Femi Adesina, Reuben Abati, Tunde Rahman, Mustapha Isah, Funke Egbemode, Chris Isiguzo, and the current President of the NGE, Eze Anaba.

The Nikkah ceremony was conducted by leading Islamic clerics from across Yorubaland and Ilorin, with sermons emphasising the importance of love, patience, and respect in marriage.

The Emir of Kano, in a goodwill message, urged the couple to build their home on the foundation of compassion and mutual respect.

Entertainment was provided by Fuji maestro Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate), while Nollywood stars including Oga Bello, Toyin Abraham, Fathia Balogun, and Bimbo Akintola added glamour to the celebration.

In her remarks, Dr Yemi Kolapo expressed pride and joy, urging the couple to “live in peace, shut out intruders, love each other and grow together.”

The groom’s father, Brig. Gen. Jimoh (retd) gave thanks for what he described as “a union destined for greatness.”

The Abeokuta wedding, which locked down the ancient city for hours, became one of the biggest gatherings of Nigeria’s power blocs in recent memory.
