Super Eagles winger, Ejuke on target for CSKA Moscow, Iwobi brilliant for Everton

By Babs Oyeotro
It was a good outing for Nigeria’s Super Eagles winger, Bright Ejuke as he continued his impressive performance for CSKA Moscow in the new season.

Since the commencement of the 2021/2022 league season, the Nigeria international has been making headlines with his amazing performance

He has lived up to expectations again on Saturday as CSKA defeated visiting Akmat Grozny 2-0 in a keenly contested encounter After a scoreless first stanza it was Vladvilav Yakovlev that opened the scoring in the 71st minute before Ejuke sealed the game in the 75th minute.

The Nigeria youngster was replaced in the 88th minute by Zainutdiviv and he received applause from the home fans as they secured maximum points.

In Austria, Karim Adeyemi netted his sixth goal in five league matches to steer Salzburg to a convincing 3-1 victory over Austria Klagenfurt.

Adeyemi only managed seven league goals in 29 league appearances for the Austrian champions last term, with much of the goalscoring burden placed on Patson Daka.

But with the Zambian striker now transferred to Leicester City, Adeyemi has been installed as the first team striker, and he has flourished in front of goal.

The 19-year-old has scored eight goals in his last eight matches across all competitions for Salzburg, needing only three minutes to break the deadlock against Austria Klagenfurt at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday.

Timossi Andersson equalized for the visitors ten minutes later, but second-half goals from Mërgim Berisha and Rasmus Kristensen sealed a perfect fifth win out of five matches for the champions.

Also, Alex Iwobi was again at his best as Everton played out a 2-2 draw against Leeds United in their Premier League encounter at Elland Road.

Iwobi came on in the second half last weekend to help Everton to a 3-1 win over Southampton, setting up Abdoulaye Doucoure’s goal.

The performance convinced Everton’s manager Rafael Benitez to hand him a starting spot in the clash against Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

And he once again produced another excellent display even though he did not score or assist. The Super Eagles star, playing on the right flank, was key at both ends of the pitch.

He completed three out of three dribbles and made two key passes, including one big chance. The 25-year-old also managed one shot off target and had an 88% pass accuracy.

Iwobi was also solid defensively, making two key interceptions and the same number of tackles, while he also won five duels.

The match itself started with Leeds on the front foot, but it was the away side that went ahead in the 30th minute through Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s penalty after Liam Cooper held the Englishman in the box.

Leeds drew level after half-time through Mateusz Klich, who slotted home after being played through by Patrick Bamford.

The Toffees then retook the lead courtesy of a low-footed strike from Demarai Gray. The Toffees had the chance to extend their lead when Iwobi set up Calvert-Lewin with a brilliant through ball, but the England international could only hit straight at Illan Meslier.

But it was a different story for Watford who lost 2-0 to Brighton, the newly promoted club side to the elite cadre. Watford failed to consolidate on their victory against Aston Villa in their first game of the season. Even the presence of the three Nigerian players-Troost-Ekong, Emmanuel Dennis, and Etebo could not salvage the situation.
