The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says troops have sustained anti-crude oil theft operations in the South-South, intercepting illegally refined petroleum products and curbing economic sabotage.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Onoja said troops of Operation DELTA SAFE intensified operations during the period under review, targeting illegal refining activities and criminal elements.
He said troops operating in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom intercepted a stockpile of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
According to him, the suspects fled on sighting troops, abandoning the products.
“Troops recovered 45 nylon bags of AGO estimated at 1,350 litres, valued at about ₦2.43 million,” he said.
Onoja added that the recovered products were secured and handled in line with operational mandates, with no incidents recorded.
He said troops also conducted operations in parts of Edo State, where kidnapped victims were rescued and suspected criminals arrested during clearance operations.
Onoja reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces to protecting critical national assets and denying economic saboteurs freedom of action.
He called on the public to continue to support security agencies with credible information to enhance ongoing operations. (NAN)
