Two Abuja policemen killed by Shi’ite group

Two policemen attached to the FCT police command have been reportedly killed by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, popularly known as the ‘Shi’ite’ group.

The development was made public by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh in Abuja, on Sunday.

Adeh also disclosed that three other police personnel who were attacked were unconscious in the hospital.

She added that the organisation attacked the police checkpoint unprovoked, wielding machetes, improvised explosive devices (locally made bombs in bottles with kerosene), and knives. They also set three patrol vehicles ablaze.

Condemning the attack, the PPRO revealed that arrests have been effected, stressing that the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, vowed to leave no stone unturned to apprehend the perpetrators.

“The situation is presently under control and normalcy restored, and further development will be communicated in due course,” it stressed.
