Two in court for allegedly defiling minor

A 53-year-old, Adekunle Aladesanmi who allegedly defiled and impregnated a minor, was docked on Wednesday in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The police also charged Wuraola Ibrahim, 36 with unlawful procurement of abortion.

The Prosecution Counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendants committed the offense on Nov. 10 at Temidire Street, Olodi Apapa, Ajegunle.

The first defendant, Ajayi said defiled the 14- year old girl, got her pregnant, and then took the girl to the second defendant for an abortion.

The second defendant, she said, administered a drug on her to abort her pregnancy.

“After taking the drug, the girl started bleeding, and if not for the neighbors, who intervened and rushed her to the hospital, it would have been another story,” she said.

The case was reported at the police station and the duo was arrested.

The offense, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 147 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The attempts to procure abortion carry a penalty of 3 years imprisonment according to the Criminal Law.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate A.O Ajibade granted the defendants a bail of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She ordered the sureties must be blood-related with evidence of tax payment and a verified address.

Ajibade adjourned the case until Jan. 24, 2022, for mention.
