
An Abeokuta Magistrates’Court on Thursday sentenced two men to two years imprisonment each for forging the Ogun State government internal revenue receipt and stealing N75,000.
The convicts, Nwonu Chizoba, 34, Abdulahi Isa, 42, whose addresses were not given were convicted for conspiracy, forgery, and fraud.
Magistrate David Ogogo held that all evidence presented in court proved that Chizoba and Isa were guilty of the charge against them.
Ogogo in his judgment sentenced the two men to two years imprisonment each with an option to pay an N50,000 fine each.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Olaide Rawlings told the court that the convicted persons committed the offense on Dec. 3, 2020, at about 11 a.m. in the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service office Oke-Mosan in Abeokuta.
Rawlings said that the convicts defrauded Mrs. Cynthia Ojebe of N75, 000 meant for tax clearance.

The prosecutor explained that Chibuzo contacted Isa, to produce a false duplicate of the tax receipt, which he later presented to the complainant as genuine.
She added that Chibuzo collected the money and converted it to his personal use.
She said the offense contravened the provisions of sections 516, 467(1) (a) and 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006
