Two prosecuted for faking a kidnap

Mary Idris and Victor Olawusi were handed a two weeks’ community service by an Ekiti state magistrate court for faking a kidnap. They are also to go for two weeks counselling which would run simultaneously along with the community service. Mary and Olawusi are 20 and 18 years old, respectively.
Idris had travelled to Akure to see her boyfriend, and could not afford the fare back to Ekiti. So she and Olawusi decided to stage the kidnap as a way of getting some money.
Monica Ikebulo, serving as a prosecutor for the police, mentioned that they conducted themselves in a way that could disrupt the peace of their families by concealing their whereabouts and demanding a ransom.
