Tyre bursts, bus crashes, catches fire in Kwara

One person was killed and several others injured after a commercial bus carrying 21 passengers crashed and caught fire on the Oko-Olowo Expressway in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The accident occurred around Iye-Maja Junction on Sunday after one of the bus tyres reportedly became punctured while the vehicle was in motion.
The tyre fault caused the driver to lose control of the bus, which somersaulted before bursting into flames.
The Kwara State Fire Service said it received a distress call and arrived at the scene at about 6:35pm, with firefighters immediately commencing rescue operations.
The service said the passengers were evacuated from the burning vehicle, while those injured were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
One passenger was, however, confirmed dead in the crash.
The Chief Fire Officer, Alabi Muhammed, urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to ensure their vehicles were properly maintained and roadworthy before embarking on journeys.
He advised drivers to regularly inspect their tyres, braking systems, electrical components and other critical parts of their vehicles, stressing that early detection of faults could prevent major road emergencies.
