The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has declared that the ongoing infrastructural development in the Southeast under President Bola Tinubu and the remarkable performance of Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, offer more tangible benefits to Ndigbo than any presidential ambition ahead of 2027.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its Deputy President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze said for the first time since the Nigeria-Biafra War in 1970, a Nigerian president has “captured the trust and confidence of the Southeast” through strategic appointments and critical federal road projects.
The group highlighted the Cross River–Ebonyi–Benue–Kogi–Abuja Super Highway and ongoing rehabilitation of other abandoned roads as ground-breaking interventions that address decades of marginalisation.
“Ohanaeze unequivocally states that these infrastructural initiatives represent far greater and more immediate benefits to Ndigbo than any individual’s aspirations for the presidency in 2027,” the statement read.
The organisation contrasted Tinubu’s efforts with what it described as the failures of former presidents to impact their home regions significantly.
It cited Goodluck Jonathan’s inability to deliver durable roads in the Niger Delta and Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to end insecurity in the North despite long years in power.
Praising Senator Umahi as one of the “top five performing ministers,” Ohanaeze lauded his innovative road construction techniques and his zonal town hall meetings designed to engage Nigerians on infrastructure challenges.
The group urged President Tinubu to ensure the timely release of funds for the swift completion of ongoing projects in the Southeast, stressing that Umahi’s achievements have already boosted the region’s political relevance and fostered new alliances across the country.
