UN chief welcomes intra-Libyan agreement on withdrawal of mercenaries

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General,  Antonio Guterres,  has welcomed an intra-Libyan agreement on the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces, said his spokesman.

Guterres welcomed Friday’s agreement reached by the Libyan 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) in Geneva on a comprehensive action plan for the gradual, balanced, and sequenced process of the withdrawal of mercenaries.

The withdrawal of mercenaries,  foreign fighters, and forces from Libyan territory, according to Stephane Dujarric in a statement is the cornerstone in the implementation of the cease-fire agreement signed on Oct. 23, 2020, in Geneva.

The Secretary-General applauded the unity of purpose prevailing within the 5+5 JMC and called on all Libyan and international actors to work toward the implementation of this action plan.
