Uneasy calm at Ologbo Community over
By Victor Ofure Osehobo, Benin City

There is uneasy calm at Ologbo in Ikpoba Okha local Government Area in Edo State following a petition by a section of Itsekiris and Ijaws to the Federal Government to restrain the traditional ruler from further imposing administrators on their communities.

The Itsekiris and Ijaws presently inhabit Ikara, Kolokolo, Ajatiton, Ajamogha and Abiala, one and two as well as parts of Ologbo riverine communities which they say are outside the control of the ruler.
But the ruler, His Royal Highness Owen Jackson Imasogie Akenzua say this is not true as there exists harmony and cordial relationship amongst all ethnic nationalities in his domain.
Shuwa Oyemami and 11 others in their petition said the Mbanefo Boundary Committees’ mistake in using Ologbo River as landmark for the Boundary between Edo and Delta States gave the ruler who is Benin, control over Ologbo and adjourning riverine communities.
They said that the ruler cannot appoint people to manage their affairs as community governance in the areas they live is by family representation under the supervision and approval of a Head they call, ‘Olare-Aja’.
His Royal Highness Owen Jackson Imasogie Akenzuwa however dismissed the claims as frivolous, baseless and untrue.
He said his palace decided to institute Community Executive to avoid difficulties in accessing the areas for ease of daily administration for rapid development and peaceful environment.
The Enogie reiterated the fact that the Ologbo river remains the natural boundary between Edo and Delta on the Ologbo axis of the State.
