UNICAL SUG rejects hike in price of food, other services

The Students Union Government (SUG) of the University of Calabar has rejected the sudden hike in the price of goods and services on campus.

The  development was coming in the wake of over 45 per cent increase in school fees by the university authorities.

Worried by the hike, which was beginning to cause agitation among students, the SUG quickly intervened by holding consultations with the food vendors and other service providers operating on campus.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Welfare of the union, Mr Paul Omagu, stated that the interface had yielded positive result.

According to Omagu, the union has succeeded in prevailing on the food vendors and service providers to revert to the old price.

He stated that the union went round the campus to ensure that the price of goods and services remained regulated.

“After meeting with the food sellers, those at Cameroon Section of Malabor Republic accepted our terms and are now selling at the normal price.

“It is safe to say that the price of food in that location has been successfully regulated.
