Supporters of embattled social media activist and blogger, Martins Otse, known otherwise as VeryDarkMan (VDM) have besieged the branch of the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) where he was arrested.
Recall that the blogger was picked up on Friday by personnel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when he went to lodge a complaint about some unauthorised deduction from his mother’s account with the bank.
His arrest has caused chaos in the Nigerian social media space as his supporters, known as The Ratels have threatened to shut down the bank and besiege the anti-graft agency’s office until VDM is released unconditionally.
The reason for his arrest has not been made public. However, the bank on Friday, clarified that it had no hands in his arrest and detention, noting that the blogger was apprehended outside the banking hall and premises.
In a viral video, some of his supporters were seen outside the bank demanding his release.
One of the protesters, while addressing others, stated that their protest was against injustice and impunity.
