Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66.
His death was confirmed on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after his daughter, Kira Taiwo, announced the development during an Instagram live session.
The actor’s death comes days after his family revealed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for urgent medical assistance.
His daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, had earlier made emotional appeals for medical professionals and hospitals capable of providing further treatment for their father.
Ogogo’s health condition had attracted widespread concern across the entertainment industry, with several of his colleagues and well-wishers rallying support for the veteran actor.
Fellow actor Jide Kosoko had also disclosed that hundreds of people offered various forms of assistance as the family searched for appropriate medical care.
The actor’s condition became public earlier in August after his daughters disclosed that he had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer.
At the time, the family said they were not seeking financial donations but needed access to specialists and medical facilities that could provide appropriate care.
His death also comes barely five days after his family dismissed reports circulating on social media that he had died. Lima Taiwo had described the earlier report as fake and urged the public to stop spreading unverified information.
Born Taiwo Hassan, Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning more than four decades.
He worked as an actor, producer, director and screenwriter and featured in hundreds of Nigerian films, earning a reputation as one of the industry’s respected veterans.
His death marks another major loss for the Nigerian film industry, with tributes expected from colleagues, fans and other stakeholders who admired his contribution to Yoruba cinema over the years.
