Police arrest, detain Editor, Madu Onuorah in Abuja

Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Globalupfront newspapers, Madu Onuorah has been arrested by police in Abuja.

Onuorah was reportedly taken into custody on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, by fully armed policemen who arrived in two Sienna vehicles at his residence in the Lugbe area of Abuja.

The management of Globalupfront Newspapers condemned the arrest, stating that Onuorah was arrested in front of his family, who demanded an explanation from the police.

According to the organization, Onuorah’s phones were seized, cutting off his communication, and he was not allowed to contact his lawyer or relatives before being taken to Lugbe police station.

The management called for Onuorah’s immediate and unconditional release, emphasizing his journalistic experience and lawful conduct.

They urged that any disputes be settled in court rather than resorting to police intervention, criticizing the use of law enforcement to suppress freedom of expression.
