The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Anambra has arrested a woman for beating her grandchild to death and dumping her body in a bush.
According to a statement released by the spokesperson of NAPTIP, Okafor Anthony on Thursday said the suspect was arrested in a primary school in Awka, Anambra state.
He disclosed that the suspect claimed the victim was her granddaughter and was reported to have died on the 29th of September 2022.
“While being questioned on the whereabout of the victim, she disclosed that the victim had died.
“The suspect led the operatives of NAPTIP to the scene where she disposed the body of the victim. On arriving the scene, the victim’s decomposing body was found wrapped in a black nylon bag where the suspect dumped her in the bush around Hezekiah Dike Crescent Awka.
“The suspect claimed that the deceased victim is her granddaughter. The victim was reported to have died on the 29th of September 2022.”

Further investigations reveal that the school authorities laid a complaint at NAPTIP after the teachers observed the different torture mark on the child when she taken to the school for enrollment.
NAPTIP tried to reach the suspect but failed but they told the school authorities promises her of returning the money she had paid for the child enrollment and lure her.
The woman was arrested by the anti-trafficking operatives on Wednesday after she went back to the school for a refund of the deceased enrollment.
After series of investigations, the woman revealed to NAPTIP that she the child was dead.
She added that she beat the child few days ago after she defecated in a bucket they used for bathing.
She also said that she dumped her in a bush after she found out she was dead.
“I beat her, and she started convulsing so I took her to Kings (hospital). Getting there, she died, so I threw her body here.”
She added that the deceased was her 19-year-old daughter.
The anti-trafficking operatives claimed they have handed the suspect over to the Police for further investigation.
