Tonye Cole steps down from Rivers 2027 Governorship Race

Governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tonye Patrick Cole, has withdrawn from the party’s 2027 gubernatorial primaries, citing the need for unity and stability within the party.

In a statement issued on Wednesday night, Cole said his decision followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders, supporters, and members of his political team after a crucial meeting convened by the national leadership of the APC.

According to him, the meeting focused on the future of the party in Rivers State and the need to present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Cole explained that his withdrawal was in deference to the supremacy of the party and in the overriding interest of peace, reconciliation, and collective progress within the Rivers APC.

He pledged his support and cooperation to whoever emerges as the party’s candidate at the end of the primaries.

The former APC governorship candidate noted that the decision was reached after “deep reflection” and was driven by patriotism and commitment to the stability and growth of both the party and Rivers State.

He thanked party faithful, youths, women groups, elders, and supporters across the state for standing by him throughout his political journey, describing their support as inspiring and humbling.

Despite stepping aside from the contest, Cole reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals and aspirations that united his supporters, promising to continue working for the development of Rivers State and the success of the APC.

He also appealed to his supporters to remain peaceful and cooperate fully with the leadership of the party in order to secure victory for the APC and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Cole concluded the statement with prayers for the APC, Rivers State, and Nigeria.
