We Will Impose Stern Measures to Sanitize Nigerian Immigration Services-CG

The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration services, CG Muhammadu Babandede has announced that stern measures are in the pipeline towards repositioning the services, through embarking on effective measures aimed to cleanse the services from acts of indiscipline, laxity, truancy, absenteeism, bribery and corruption to full pledged disciplined institution.

“Parts of the reforms we intend to embark upon consist of, flushing out rotten eggs, erring officers, truancy and unproductive staffs within our midst in the bid to inject discipline, good moral conduct, to ensure quality service delivery”

In an exclusive interview with the “Hausa Services of the BBC”,  Babandede said, we have constituted a powerful committee to that effect, and believe you me I won’t hesitate to lay all the culprits caught with these vices off the service, provided they are found wanting in their various  commands, stressing it is through that we will be sure of having self-disciplined personnel for excellent service delivery.

“We are fed up with the consistent public outcry of ill morality, and rude behaviour of our staff while on duty especially those at the borders.  he warned that we will evolve effective mechanism that will be saddle with responsibility of monitoring any wrongdoers for disciplinary actions so as to ensure decent and quality service delivery” he said.

Babandede who admonished that the services is being clouded with some challenges, assured that with determination, and commitments, they will win the game. “Hence our resolve to come up with stern measures that will reshape, and transform our house into order”

“To buttress our resolve, I directed for a national conference of all state’s Comptrollers at our headquarters in Abuja which will hold soon for us to discuss extensively upon our predicaments for a way forward”.

Other measures were the introduction of engaging the services of community leaders nationwide on advisory body, restructuring our service codes, and operations, formation of new directives and implementations for improve service delivery.

According to him, we vowed to reposition the Nigerian Immigration Services to international standard with the formation of various measures, such as updating our working tools among facilities nationwide for us to be to leave good legacy at the exit of our leadership.

Investigations by our correspondent has revealed that the Nigerian Immigration Services was bedeviled with numerous challenges ranging from shortage of man-power, operational vehicles, working tools, poor incentive allowances to officers on border patrols, staff personal security at check points, among others.

Some immigration officers of Babura and Maigatari border posts who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity lamented over their situations, saying “We are just dumped here in isolation, no operational vehicles, no incentive allowances, no communication gadgets to operate, and above all no steady security to our personal life, we are just risking our lives rendering services without adequate security to back up our lives in situations which call for prompt actions.
