Anxiety heightened amongst security personnel and residents of Anambra state following attacks by unknown gunmen at two Police formations in the early hours of Thursday on Mobile 16 Police force and Area Command headquarters respectively at Oraifite town in Ekwusigo local government area of the state.
Six Policemen were said to have been shot dead by the rampaging gunmen when they struck the two force commands.
Several number of policemen also sustained gunshot injuries.
It was learned that the casualties may have increased after the heavy gun battle which lasted for hours.
ThisNigeria investigation revealed that the policemen were caught unawares by the unknown gunmen who stormed the stations in many vehicles.
A source close to the area said about five mobile policemen were reported to have been shot dead and others sustained serious gunshots.
The source who pleaded not to mention his name stated that both the dead and injured were taken to a nearby hospital in the area.

It was further learned that arms belonging to the dead officers were taken away by the unknown gunmen.
Commissioner of police in the state, Mr. Echeng Echeng could not be reached for comment on the incident.
The Zone 13 Public Relations Officer in the state DSP Nkeiruka Nwude in charge of Election Matters when contacted referred this paper to the FPPRO CP Frank Mba.
But MBA when contacted on phone refused to answer several calls and SMS sent to him by our Correspondent.
