President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration is set to build an all-inclusive nation where no one will be excluded.
The interchange links the Wuye and Wuse districts of the FCT.
Yesterday’s event was the third in the series of commissioning projects in the FCT by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Tinubu who was physically present again to inaugurate the interchange stressed: “We will build a nation where no one is excluded.”
The President said he was determined to succeed and extend happiness to the teaming population and to bring about prosperity and value of immense proportions to the majority of Nigerians.
The President also commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for making the project a reality and a dream come true.
He stressed that making the people the central focus of his government was his priority and a virtue that could make democracy work.
“Nyesom, honourable minister, if they say you drag me from sleep most of the time, this is for results. Wuse, as a vibrant community within the nation’s capital and the supporting areas will be the beneficiaries of this engineering infrastructure. Your resilience, patience, and unwavering support have been instrumental in making this moment possible.
“We celebrate not just the infrastructure, but also the empowerment of Wuse and Wuye communities. This is a fulfilment of promises made several years back. But you always say and the experts acknowledge the fact that government is a continuum.
“The best way to achieve greatness is to look forward, aspire for great results, and not look at obstacles, see opportunity from the obstacles and grab it.
“We are investing in essential services such as water supply, electricity, and road network that lay the groundwork for economic growth and prosperity, to share progress and improvement in the quality of life for all residents of Abuja Capital Territory.
“With the completion of this project, we will witness a fast improvement in traffic flow within the district and the adjoining districts.”
The President stressed that projects were not realised on their own, but come with thinking and hard work, adding that that was what Wike has done.
In his remarks, Wike said residents of the FCT had lost hope in the completion of the interchange bridge, linking the Wuye and Wuse districts, but now have a reason to rejoice.
“The FCT is working due to the President’s significant support. This project, initially awarded in 2009 at a cost of N34bn, was revised to N74bn before this administration took office on May 29, 2023,” the Minister said.
Highlighting the 15-year struggle to complete the bridge and the difficulties faced by people and businesses during this period, Wike said, “Thanks to the President’s determination, we have restored hope with this project’s completion.”
According to the minister, the wide array of projects being inaugurated in the FCT during Tinubu’s first anniversary would not have been possible without the exclusion of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
“Moving us out of TSA made these achievements possible. I sincerely thank you, Mr. President, for this approval,” Wike said.
Also, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, in her vote of thanks, declared the administration’s gratitude to President Tinubu and his commitment to ensuring FCT infrastructure development, which, she said, would benefit the next generations.
The FDA Executive Secretary, Shehu Hadi, said that the project would positively impact the lives of the people.
