There have been reports that someone had called for the changing of Nigeria’s name to the United African Republic or the United Alkebulan Republic (meaning: United Mother of Mankind Republic or the or “garden of eden”) as its new name.
The call for the change of name was made at the South West Zonal Public Hearing on Wednesday by Adeleye Jokotoye.
Jokotoye submitted that Nigeria’s current name was from the colonial masters and should be changed to reflect the new beginning it is seeking with the Constitution Review that is ongoing in the country.
He said: “At this crossroads in our history, it is mandatory that we change our name to reflect a new beginning which will be ushered in with a new constitution,”
However, reactions have trailed this submission by Jokotoye as many are against it others think that it is a right thing to do.

Ada-Eze @Real_AdaKing in her own tweet said that the problem with the country is not about name but that of foundation and she intoned that change of the name of the country will be ‘like when NEPA changed its name to PHCN, still no light.’
She said: ‘The problem of Nigeria is not the name but the foundation. Changing Nigeria’s name to United African Republic is like when NEPA changed its name to PHCN, still no light. It’s time we stop being Delusional and start facing reality that the only solution to Nigeria is separation.’
Dr PamPam Omo Iya Ologi @UnclePamilerin said : ‘So our problem as a country is how to change name from Nigeria to United African Republic. This is the height of madness’
