The Senate has resolved to pass the long-awaited Constitution Amendment Bill before it proceeds on this year’s annual recess in July, Deputy Senate President, Movie Omo-Agege, has said.

Omo-Agege, who is also the Chairman Senate Committee on Constitution Amendment, made this revelation at a press conference ahead of the zonal public hearing on the bill slated for Wednesday and Thursday, this week, in 12 state capitals and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

“We are working with a timetable. Time is no longer on the outside. Nigerians, who are clamoring for this expect that we will come up with a finished product in no time. The calendar we have set for ourselves is that we are going to have a vote on each of the bills before we proceed on the long recess in July,” he said.

The Delta Central lawmaker called on Nigerians to effectively engage the process of the public hearing and present their demands or recommendations for consideration by the National Assembly, saying: “Democracy is a process of consultation and constructive engagement, so let us all leverage on this platform to build the country of our dream.”
