The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has allocated 400 hectares of land in Wasa Waru District to accommodate the mechanics, artisans, and traders in Apo Mechanic Village.
The Chairman of the Relocation Committee, Abubakar Makama, disclosed this when the committee members visited the site yesterday.
Recall that the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, (AMMC), Chief Felix Obuh, recently inaugurated a 19-member Technical Committee on behalf of the FCT Administration to ensure the successful relocation of the traders from the Apo Mechanic site to the permanent site in Wasa, Waru District.
While speaking at the site, Makama, a town planner, stated that the relocation exercise began with the traders (before the artisans) because of pressure and ongoing road construction in the area.
“As we are on the ground now, we will take the perimeter measurement again. For now, we can tentatively say 391 hectares. That’s almost 400 hectares for the Apo mechanic businessmen and the artisans,” Makama said.
“We are starting with the Apo Mechanic traders because of the pressure and ongoing road construction within the area,” he added.
He noted that the new site links many expressways, starting from Apo Junction to Apo Karshi Road and another through Waru District up to Wasa District.
He assured the traders that the committee would work within the stipulated time frame of three months given to them by the coordinator to deliver its assignment.
