Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said that it is important for every Nigerian to contribute to the development of the country.
Wike made the call when he received an award for Exceptional Leadership at THIS NIGERIA Inaugural Lecture and Gold Prize which was held on Wednesday at the Musa Yar-Adua Centre, Abuja.
The theme of the event was “National Cohesion for Sustainable Growth and Progress: The Nigerian Dilemma.”
The governor stated that Nigeria cannot be united when “some parts of the country were being treated unjustly, discriminated against.
“You cannot talk about national cohesion when ethnicity and religion are in the picture. There is an urgent need for Nigerians to start seeing ourselves as one, regardless of what tribe we belong to or the religion we practise” Wike said.
He called on the media to always report the “truth and educate the public about the different matters arising across the country.

“The media owes it to Nigerians to bring us up-to-date on all issues trending across the country. Let the people know the truth always. Stop causing problems by sensationalising matters,” the governor said.
Also honoured at the event were the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board(JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmud Yakubu.
Present at the event includes Bishop Matthew Kukah Mike Ozekhome SAN, former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, Senator Domingo Obende, Nollywood actor Francis Duru, among other dignitaries
