Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, has said the administration of Nyesom Wike made a greater developmental impact in Rivers State than those of former governors Peter Odili and Chibuike Amaechi.
Nwuche made the assertion at a reception he organised for Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress leaders from Ahoada East and Ahoada West local government areas in Ochigba, Ahoada East.
He maintained that despite the years spent in office by previous administrations, Ekpeye land had little to show in terms of major development projects before Wike became governor.
According to the former lawmaker, the Wike administration embarked on more than 18 projects in Ekpeye, including the Ahoada Campus of Rivers State University, the Ahoada-Omoku dual carriageway and the Ochigba Road.
He noted that the Ochigba project, although initiated during Amaechi’s tenure, was left unfinished until Wike took over and completed it.
Nwuche said Wike’s intervention extended beyond Ekpeye, claiming that over 1,000 kilometres of roads were constructed or completed across Rivers during his tenure.
He cited the dualisation of the 16.06-kilometre Saakpenwa-Bori Highway, rehabilitation of the Eleme-Afam Road and completion of the Nkoro-Opobo section of the Ogoni-Opobo-Andoni Unity Road as some of the projects.
He also highlighted the transformation of the Ahoada-Omoku Road, including the installation of street lights, as well as the construction of 10 flyovers across Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor.
Nwuche argued that the projects demonstrated what could be achieved when political office was used to address the needs of residents.
The former deputy speaker further urged political leaders to measure their time in office by their contributions to the welfare and development of the people.
He criticised public officials who, according to him, used political positions to oppress citizens or pursue personal enrichment, saying such individuals should not aspire to further public office.
Nwuche declared his continued support for Wike and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while describing himself as a grassroots politician committed to mobilising communities across Ekpeye land.
He also said his return to active politics followed a period of political inactivity and pledged to work with political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
